The second-hand marketplace Members Express Displeasure Regarding Size Changes
Vinted users have been reacting angrily following a change that caused items being listed as the wrong size.
This online marketplace has revised its measurement guidelines for women's and children's garments but did not contact every member regarding the update.
Online Platforms Response
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present an altered size classification versus the original listing due to the recalibration.
The company said the revised method more closely matches comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to check their listings and update the measurements by hand when needed, which has left users frustrated.
Size Classification Modifications
Previously, the sizing featured one number and one letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - for example a size L used to be a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Shopper Stories
Frankie Bridger, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Another user, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were displaying on the service as measurements 20-22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they're going to be very disappointed," she stated.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, from Derby, explained she became annoyed by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and Vinted sales have been crucial after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Marketplace Information
The app has more than 100 million users, including 18 million in the UK.
It has emerged as a preferred choice compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion where an unanticipated change to the app has proved unpopular: previously, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods after backlash from users.
